Next Generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class Interior Spied!

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class interior has been spied almost entirely uncovered. From the interior photos, we can see a new instrument panel with two large LCD screens, one of the screens replaces the regular analog instruments while the other one is a touchscreen display for controlling entertainment, navigation, climate and communication.

As previously reported, engine options will include a wide range of diesel and petrol units. A plug-in hybrid with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine and a 60bhp electric motor is also rumoured.
Radar based Distronic PLUS with Steering Assist, which helps the driver to maintain the desired distance in stop and go traffic, steering Wizard, which uses cameras to detect lane markings and vehicles ahead and makes the car drive at slower speeds are a few of the technical features on the new S-Class. There is also Brake Assist PLUS with crossover wizard, which uses camera and radar sensors, helping to prevent rear-end collisions, new Adaptive Highbeam Assist PLUS, Traffic sign assistant, Night View Assist PLUS and new Parking Assistant will park your car automatically, taking over even the brakes.

Clark Gable's 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Sells

Purchased new by Clark Gable at Mercedes-Benz of Hollywood, Calif. List price was $7,295 FOB NYC. After Gable's death in November 1960, ownership was passed to Harry Haeigen, cartoonist and Gable's publicist. Title passed to Charles Wood, owner of Grand Stand Amusement Park in 1975. In 1989, Mr. Wood commissioned Paul M. Russell of Gullwing Service Company, Inc. of Essex, Mass. to restore this classic at a cumulative cost of nearly $200,000. Gable ditched the standard steel wheels for the racing Rudge knock-offs the car wears now. The wood and chrome Nardi steering wheel replaces the standard white wheel, early photos show the Nardi wheel in Gable's lifetime. The car was featured in the May/June 2006 edition of Motor Trend Classic magazine. At the time the car was subjected to extensive testing that shows it can handle and perform much as it did in 1955. Copies of the 1960s auto registration cards show Clark Gable's signature along with Kathleen "Kay" Sprecker's (5th Wife). Gable signed service orders from Mercedes-Benz of Hollywood for a lube/oil change for $4.00 and parts for $10.83 total. From the Bob Howard Collection.

Mercedes-Benz E-class Unveiled with Power and Panache

Mercedes-Benz unveiled its new E-class cars Monday at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit with all the panache you might expect of the luxury automaker. Dieter Zetsche, chairman of Daimler, said the E stood for emotion, efficiency and extra intelligence. He touted the line's looks and digital features, which are "paving the way to autonomous driving." On Sunday night, the automaker unveiled a concept with hints of its anticipated CLA-class sedan at the Westin Book Cadillac.

Mercedes' E-class luxury sedan and station wagon are getting substantial updates to compete with the Audi A6, BMW 5-series and Lexus GS. A new, 2.5-liter four-cylinder diesel engine replaces the previous 3.5-liter V6 to deliver high fuel economy, 190 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. V6, hybrid and V8 models will also be available. Visual changes include optional LED headlights, broad LED taillights that emphasize the cars' width and two grille designs, one of which incorporates Mercedes' three-pointed star. A new character line along the sides echoes the profile of the SL roadster and SLS super car. Available features include a binocular camera mounted behind the rear view mirror that generates a 3D image for safety systems to identify vehicles and pedestrians.
The E-class sedan and wagon also get a stop-start system that shuts the engine off when idling to save fuel. A seven-speed automatic transmission is standard.

Mercedes' smaller E-class coupe and convertible share a number of the improvements, including the binocular vision, LED lights and stop-start. The coupe and convertible are available with either a 302-horsepower V6 or 402-horsepower twin-turbo V8. In addition, the automaker also showed off the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E 63 AMG, a high-performance midsize sedan that goes on sale this summer.

Mercedes' E 63 AMG super sedan and wagon add an S-model featuring all-wheel drive and an outrageously powerful 5.5-liter bi-turbo V8 that produces 577 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.

Mercedes-Benz ML250 BlueTex, B200 CNG Named "Most Environmentally Friendly" in Class

Ml_250

Two Mercedes-Benz models, the ML 250 BlueTec 4Matic and the Mercedes-Benz B200 Natural Gas Drive, have been named the most eco-friendly cars in their class by the popular German auto magazine Auto Test, which awarded them the title "Winners in Green."

The environmental car ranking, published annually, is based on a dozen criteria, including fuel consumption, pollutant emissions, manufacturing, recycling and the environmental systems of the manufacturer.

This is the second straight year the ML 250 BlueTec 4Matic has earned the top spot for an SUV, for its energy efficient direct-injection, turbocharged, four-cylinder, 204-horsepower diesel engine. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in nine seconds and get 40 miles per gallon while emitting just 158 g/km of CO2 (combined). It has a range of just over 1,000 miles. 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class models are priced between $81,400 and $177,900.

The Mercedes-Benz B200 Natural Gas Drive features a 156-hp engine that is more than 16 percent more efficient than its predecessors. The model also includes a three-gallon gas tank, which extends the 350-mile range of the natural gas tank. If the natural gas tank goes empty, the vehicle switches automatically to run on regular gas.

The B200 Natural Gas wagon debuted at the 2012 Paris Auto Show. The B200 is available with a manual transmission or the 7G-DCT dual clutch transmission. It is due to arrive in dealerships in Europe at the beginning of 2013.
